Gary joined Brumside radio bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience within the music industry. We have asked Gary to tell us about his time in the industry. Below is a quick brief but only touches on his experience. He has plenty of stories so be sure to listen to his shows to hear more of the stories from his time in the industry.
First and foremost I love song writing and have had some success when I signed to a record label. At the time it was called Kool Kat records. Our office was at 5 ways in Birmingham, this was in 1988. I had only just signed to the label when Neil Ruston along with Dave Barker who set the label up had experienced chart success with inner city good life. It was a great time of my life as more chart success followed. To be a part of a team on a small independent record label was an amazing experience working with the BBC s top of the pops and much more. I am not famous myself but loved working in the background. Also introduced to John Mostyn, manager of the beat fine young cannibals and later on management to having discovered Ocean Colour Scene. In actual fact I remember the afternoon John called me up to his office to listen to there demo tape
“The gold disc is genuine as I said song writing
is at the heart of my career this is the
album deep heat 5 my song on that album
was called what’s done is done”
