A SOUTH Birmingham community radio station will be officially launching on DAB tomorrow (Monday, January 9).
Brumside Radio is based in Kings Heath but also broadcasts to a host of other areas in the south of the city, including Northfield, Longbridge, Frankley, Rednal, Rubery, Kings Norton, Selly Oak, Moseley, Weoley Castle, Bartley Green, Harborne, Cotteridge, Stirchley and Quinton.
The station, run by volunteers, has been online for the past three years and is also available on smart speakers, such as Alexa.
Brumside Radio was awarded its DAB CDSP licence in 2021 after a year of tenacious campaigning to give residents in south Birmingham their very own radio station on the airwaves.
The station will be available to listen to on DAB in Birmingham.
People can tune in to the official live switch-on at 3pm tomorrow – people may have to retune their DABs to get Brumside on the list of available stations.
Jay Adkins, a radio presenter with over 30 years experience in broadcasting and the director of Brumside Radio and the brand new digital community radio station, said
“The journey from our DAB application to actually being granted the licence was massive for us and we can’t wait for it to start.”
Brumside broadcasts a range of show covering all formats and topics local and national.
The music playlist includes unsigned, rock, Ska, reggae, dance, and music from the 1950s to the present day.
The not-for-profit station also strives to provide a local voice and cover community events and is looking for more people to be involved.
