Hi, I’m Rick Thorn. I’m 67 and live in Moseley. I’m retired now and spend my time enjoying the many lovely parks we have here and in the gym in Kings Heath, trying my best to keep fit.
My true passion, however, is music. Ever since I can remember, it has played a significant role in my life.
The first single I bought was ‘Friday on My Mind ‘ by the Easybeats, and have not stopped ever since.
My first musical loves were heavy metal with Black Sabbath & Led Zeppelin, but also reggae with Toots & the Maytals and anything on the Trojan record label.
Since the late 90’s however, my real passion has become Americana & Roots music. People like Steve Earle, Dave Alvin, and Mary Gauthier, all of whom I have been lucky enough to see. Living in Moseley is perfect for going to gigs, which I do regularly within walking distance. there is the Hare & Hounds, Kitchen Garden in Kings Heath & The Castle & Falcon in Moseley itself, all of which have brilliant established acts as well as up & coming ones on.
My love of this music has led me to contribute for an online magazine, ‘Americana UK ‘. I have reviewed albums for them now for a number of years & enjoy the buzz every time of hearing something for the very first time. I’m looking forward to sharing my passion now on Brumside Radio.
My Show will be on the first Thursday of every month between 8 & 10 in the evening. It will be a mixture of classic Americana & Roots. Plus a good sprinkling of new songs as well
