Catherine Hyde

I’m Catherine, and on Sunday afternoons I’m going to keep you company with some great music. Quite a claim from someone whose first ever album was Now 13 on cassette, but bear with me.

In fairness to my musical instincts, I had foundations. My parents raised me on Queen, Pink Floyd, The Beatles and a respectable amount of country. A proper education. Then I got hold of my own pocket money and immediately turned to Now 13. After that the wheels properly came off – there was a New Kids on the Block phase, a Take That phase, and a couple of haircuts I’d rather not get into.

Blur eventually rescued me, a punk phase rescued me from that, and now I listen to all sorts. Genuinely, all sorts. I love that music can change a mood. The right song at the right moment can turn a cruddy day around, get you through a bad week, or make putting the kettle on feel like an actual event. Which is exactly what Pop The Kettle On is about. Sunday afternoons, 2 til 4. Great music from every decade, and a bit of a chat about the lovely, surprising stories tucked into this wonderful city of ours.

Off-air, I’m Matt’s wife and mum to two daughters who are already developing better music taste than I had at their age. I love yoga and anything peaceful, mainly because nobody can ask me where their PE kit is during savasana. I’m also a big champion of women in business – though “champion” sounds rather more dignified than what it actually is, which is me being loud about other women’s brilliance every chance I get. So, Sundays, 2pm. Pop the kettle on. There will be Queen. There may well be Take That. I refuse to confirm or deny.
